Question/Answer Page

What is a sex toy?

A sex toy is an object or device that is primarily used to facilitate human sexual pleasure. The most popular sex toys are designed to resemble human genitals and may be vibrating or non-vibrating

What is a vibrator?

Vibrators are vibrating devices intended to pleasurably stimulate various parts of the body. Vibrators intended for sexual use are often dildo-shaped, although they also come in a wide range of shapes and sizes, allowing internal and external use.

  • Penetrative Vibrators usually measure twelve to eighteen centimeters (five to seven inches) in length and two to five centimeters (one to two inches) wide often to mimic the size of the average penis. [1]
  • Anal vibrators are designed to be inserted into the rectum to pleasure the prostate in men and give a feeling of fullness to women.
  • The G-spot vibrator is curved at one end to facilitate stimulation of the female G-spot. Some are small and can fit on to a finger.
  • Bullet vibrators are small, bullet-shaped vibrators that can be used for direct stimulation or inserted into other sex toys to increase stimulation.
  • Vibrator wands, such as the Hitachi Magic Wand, are large vibrators that generally plug into a wall (versus operating on battery power) and are marketed as back massagers. They are typically used for clitoral stimulation.
  • The rabbit vibrator, of which there are several variations, is a popular female sex toy popularized by the television series Sex and the City[2]. It comprises an insertable shaft which often has additional functionality, such as rotation and internal beads or a thrusting action. Attached to the shaft is a vibrating clitoral stimulator. For most rabbit vibrators this comes in the form of "bunny ears" which sit either side of the clitoris.

What is a Dildo?

  • A dildo is a non-vibrating device which is used for sexual stimulation of the vagina and/or anus. Dildos are generally made of silicone rubber, but can be made of other materials such as metals or glass. They are often made to resemble a penis.
  • A Double penetration dildo is a long, usually flexible dildo with both ends designed for penetration. It allows for mutual penetration between two persons (or for double penetration of a single female, both anally and vaginally).
  • Ben Wa balls are hollow metal balls inserted vaginally which can be worn inside the vagina for extended periods of time. The internal rolling is claimed to enhance orgasms.

  • Kegel exerciser, also known as vaginal barbells or jugglers are designed to improve muscle tone in the pelvic floor, and can be used for sexual pleasure as well as enhancing vaginal response.

Wireless sex toys are ones of the latest trends in sex toys. They have been designed to provide as much sexual pleasure as the regular sex toys do but with much more comfort. These types of sex toys come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors and forms, and their functionality has been improving as their popularity increases.

The varieties of wireless sex toys available include of all of the many types of sex toys, be they intended for clitoral, vaginal or anal stimulation, and some are even remote controlled. They are usually powered by batteries and are suitable to be used either solo or with a partner. A wireless sex toy can be anything from vibrating panties, clitoral stimulators or usual vibrators or butt plugs. [3] Commonly, wireless sex toys come as regular vibrators, vaginal eggs or bullets, butterfly or beads.

These types of sex toys are driven by batteries and usually come with different speeds. They are controlled with the help of a remote control, which makes finding the right speed and pressure easier from a more comfortable position. The reason why these sex toys are constantly increasing in popularity is that they can be controlled from a short distance (such as across the room) by either the user or another person. However, the wireless sex toys tend to be more pricey than the usual ones, but this does not stop most of the people from getting them.

Wireless sex toys are successfully used by couples, during foreplay. Most couples struggle with sexual routine and many of them decide to use different sex toys in order to improve their sexual life. The wireless sex toys are, from this point of view, great in providing pleasure for both partners as they can be a fun and exciting way of rediscovering the passion in the couple. Most people however, enjoy using them with a partner to increase their sexual excitement together with mental and visual foreplay.

There are different wireless sex toys, for both women and men. Although it may seem that the wireless sex toys are primarily intended for women, there is a wide range of these types of toys that are specially designed for men, such as wireless vibrating tongues, wireless anal plugs or wireless vibrating toys intended for the penis. [4]

As far as the wireless toys intended for women, they can be classified into two main categories. There are the wireless toys specially designed for internal stimulation: wireless eggs, wireless bullets and a wide range or wireless vibrators that may be controlled with a remote. On the other hand, there are the wireless sex toys intended for external stimulation which are focused on clitoral stimulation. Among the most popular of such toys is the remote controlled wireless "butterfly", which has straps that are intended to hold the toy in place. Wireless butterflies may be also used during sexual intercourse as those that come in smaller sizes cover the clitoris only. Many women also enjoy that they have their hands free and are able to touch their partners. [5] The fact that women may get much more stimulation and excitement during intercourse has made these types of wireless sex toys favorites among many female users. On the other hand, the wireless butterfly has been proclaimed "one of the best sex toys" by others as it gives women the ability of touching their erogenous zones while masturbating.

Flesh-like materials used in sex toys

  • Silicone is soft and lifelike, it is hypoallergenic, warms up quickly to body temperature, non-porous and so is easy to clean (with mild soap and water, or boiled for sterilization). Unlike jelly rubber and other porous materials, silicone can be sterilized in temperatures up to 300 °C (572 °F). In addition, it can be bleached in a 10% bleach solution. When using lubricants with silicone sex toys it is important that silicone or silicone-based lubricants are not used to avoid damage to the toy.
  • CyberSkin is a thermal plastic elastomer and is a close emulation of real skin. CyberSkin is made from ingredients on FDA approved lists and it does not contain phthalates, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), heavy metals or latex. It is easy to clean and maintain by washing it with soap and water, patting dry. Water based lubricants are best and they should be stored in a dry place.
  • Latex rubber, also called jelly rubber, is commonly used for sex toys; it is a flexible and inexpensive material allowing the user more options in size and look. While latex is commonly used and less expensive than materials such as silicone, glass and CyberSkin, it can be allergenic to some people with latex allergy. Latex is porous and should be cleaned thoroughly with an antibacterial soap and water and not shared with other people. Some rubber toys contain phthalates which are used to soften rubber, but carry serious risks. Studies have been done that showed adverse reproductive effects in animal and human subjects. Further research is ongoing but phthalates have a known detrimental effect on multiple facets of human health and their use in sex toys is strongly discouraged. It is recommended by many experts that one use a condom with each use for protection against bacterial infection or sexually transmitted diseases if one is sharing sex toys. Water and silicone-based lubricants can be used with latex toys, but oil-based lubricants and petroleum jelly should not be used with latex as these may adversely affect the toy.

 What is Cunnilingus?

Cunnilingus is the act of using the mouth, lips, and tongue to stimulate the female genitals

Can STI be contracted by oral sex?

Chlamydia, human papillomavirus (HPV), gonorrhea, herpes, hepatitis (multiple strains), and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) — including HIV — can be transmitted through oral sex.[9] Any kind of direct contact with body fluids of a person infected with HIV (the virus that causes AIDS) poses a risk of infection. Nevertheless, the risk of HIV infection is generally considered far lower than that associated with vaginal or anal sex.[10] If the receiving partner has wounds or open sores on her genitals, or if the giving partner has wounds or open sores on or in his or her mouth, or bleeding gums, this poses an increased risk of STI transmission. Brushing the teeth, flossing, undergoing dental work, or eating crunchy foods such as potato chips relatively soon before or after performing cunnilingus can also increase the risk of disease transmission, because all of these activities can cause small scratches in the lining of the mouth. These wounds, even when they are microscopic, increase the chances of contracting STDs that can be transmitted orally under these conditions. Such contact can also lead to more mundane infections from common bacteria and viruses found in, around, and secreted from the genital regions.

In 2005, a research study at the College of Malmö in Sweden suggested that performing unprotected oral sex on a person infected with HPV might increase the risk of oral cancer. The study found that 36% of the cancer patients had HPV compared to only 1 percent of the healthy control group. [11]

Another recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine suggests a correlation between oral sex and throat cancer. It is believed that this is due to the transmission of human papillomavirus or (HPV) because this virus has been implicated in the majority of cervical cancers. The study concludes that people who had one to five oral sex partners in their lifetime had approximately a doubled risk of throat cancer compared with those who never engaged in this activity, and those with more than five oral-sex partners had a 250% increased risk.[12]

 Prevention

Due to disease risks, many medical professionals advise the use of dental dams when performing or receiving cunnilingus with a partner whose STI status is unknown. In some cases, individuals may make a dental dam out of a condom although this comes with a multitude of risks including accident holes created by the scissors.[13] Or in the case of home made dental dams out of plastic wrap, many kinds of plastic wraps are manufactured with tiny holes to allow venting during microwaving, which may allow transmission of pathogens.

What is Fellatio?

Fellatio, (Blowjob)also called fellation,[1] is oral sex performed upon the penis. It may be performed to induce orgasm and ejaculation of semen, or it can be used as foreplay prior to vaginal or anal forms of intercourse

Lubricant

Start by accepting the need for personal lubricant.  Women who are breastfeeding, using birth control pills, or experiencing changes in their bodies as they age often benefit from a little lube.  Other women's bodies simply take longer and require more foreplay in order to become aroused.  This can be frustrating for any woman who feels that she should be ready to perform instantly, and added lubrication can be a huge help.

Picking the right lube is also important.  For instance, sex with a condom will often require a thicker lubricant in order to avoid feeling sticky or tight during penetration.  It is also important to make sure that the lubricant you choose is safe for the type of condoms you will be using.  That is why we typically recommend a water-based lubricant to maximize the condom's effectiveness.  On the other hand, when you are selecting a lubricant for oral sex, you may prefer something lighter and less tacky to the touch -- possibly even one that is a specially scented or flavored lubricant.  Different lubricants are available for anal sex, as well as sex using adult toys.  Though most personal lubricants are designed to enhance a woman's sexual experience, male lubricant is also available.  These lubes are generally used for masturbation purposes, with and without male sex toys, but they are also terrific for hand-jobs and fellatio.  No matter what type of encounter you are planning to have, chances are a little extra moisture can make it even better!

The clitoris is the most sensitive part of a woman's body and sexual arousal is always felt in the clitoris no matter where the orgasm takes place. It is usually that the sexual arousal first originates in the clit, and is considered an orgasmic starting point.

~ What Is The Clitoris And Where Is It?

It is located below the mons veneris on the anterior portion of the vulva. The inner vaginal lips, also called the labia minora when closed, tend to hide the clit, but it is interesting to note that those inner vaginal lips are attached to the underside of the clitoris and thus play an important role in the network of nerves, which transmit sexual stimulation.

The clitoral hood is formed by the connection of the inner vaginal lips. This small hood covers the clitoris in much the same manner as a foreskin covers a penis. When you pull the hood back you can see that the clit is USUALLY about the size of a pencil eraser, however the size does vary from woman to woman, much the same way penis size varies from man to man.

The clitoris is abundantly supplied with nerves. The part of the clitoris that you see is actually much like the head of a man's penis, and as a man has a shaft to his penis, a woman has a shaft to her clitoris. The shaft is located above the hood, and is more easily felt when a woman is aroused as it become more rigid as it fills with blood.

~ What Does It Feel Like?

Clitoral orgasms can be very intense, but may not be as "deep" as others. These orgasms are no doubt very, very pleasureful and helpful in achieving female ejaculation. Stimulating the clitoris can be a very good place to start when trying to achieve female ejaculation, after providing stimulation to the g-spot.

A Reminder- Remember that after an orgasm the clit can retract, and becomes highly sensitive to any further stimulation, often to the point of being painful.

~ Stimulating The Clitoris~

A woman's lover will want to respect that the clitoris is the most sensitive part of a woman's body. Rough rubbing directly on it is not usually the ideal. Another area that if often misunderstood is that most women want to have constant, repetitive motion to one or both sides of her clit. Many women have a favorite side, so it is always good to ask which side your baby likes, or if you are the receiver of such divine fun, to tell your lover. Communication is always key during GOOD sex.

Variation of speed and moving all around the clit is not generally preferred. Most women need a constant, repetitive, stimulation with little to no variation just as a vibrator would offer. That is one reason why women love those beautiful toys so much!

Pulling back the hood -

This is going to depend on a woman's clitoral sensitivity and how aroused she is. The more aroused a woman is, the more she may want or not want her clitoris directly stimulated.

For those woman who are particularly sensitive, pulling back the hood and receiving direct clitoral stimulation is not going to be a pleasureful experience.

If a woman likes her hood pulled back, the best way to do so is by spreading her lips apart, or pulling up on the mons.

Range Of Motion -

When women masturbate, they often rotate around their clit in a circular motion, while other women prefer a side-to-side or up and down motion. Another technique is rolling the clitoris with the thumb and pointer finger or tip of a dildo. This should be done gently.

The G-Spot Orgasm

This orgasm may begin at the g-spot and stay focused there throughout the building and final release of the orgasm, or may expand throughout the body. This orgasm is demonstrated when the g-spot is stimulated and becomes "puffy" and swollen as the tissue surrounding the female Paraurethral/Skenes glands fill with blood during sexual arousal. This results in the tissue becoming firm to the touch.

~ What Does It Feel Like?

Like the vaginal orgasm, this usually takes longer to build. Because the g-spot is not stimulated as much by friction as much as pressure, using a rhythmic pushing against the g-spot is more pleasureful than light rubbing.

Most women describe this type of orgasm as an intense, deeply sensual pressure that builds until it feels like the entire vaginal explodes with ecstasy and is usually followed by euphoric energy that spreads throughout entire body. This orgasm, like the vaginal orgasm can release an emotional response as it provides women with a sense of being penetrated more than just physically, but also in a more emotionally vulnerable sense.
